A doctor with a prescription for headlines by Alessandra Stanley

http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?index=1&did=2016461541&SrchMode=1&sid=8&Fmt=3&VInst=PROD&VType=PQD&RQT=309&VName=PQD&TS=1274191296&clientId=9417

This article describes both the good and bad sides of Dr. Kevorkian and the assisited suicides that he has been involved in. The good side portrays the fact that most people do not know Jack, aka Dr. Kevorkian. In the article there is a quote of him saying something to his sister, "You know, she had that same look of agony on her face, just like Mother. It's not living you know, it's not being alive." This presents the empatheitic side of him. He shows feelings for his lost mother and how she is better off where she is now than to suffer here in our world. In this article, Stanley states in the beginning that it is possible to love the sin and hate the sinner. What she means by this is that what he was trying to help or accomplish was good. In other words, helping someone, but wat he did or had to do to accomplish this was not so great.

I do not believe that this article is logically and effectivly supported. She does not present any source of her being credited or where she got her information in this essay and she makes references to a movie which is not credible in any occasion. There was no evidence included that was relevant to the topic. Intended audience for this essay would most likely include anyone interested in reading about assisted suicide and gaining any information about Dr. Kevorkian and the movie that came out imitiating his actions and assisted suicides. I was definitly not persuaded by this article in the fact that assisted suicide is alright within today's society.

I was not persuaded by this article and my opinion on this topic still stands as it was before I read the article. After reading this article it made me feel even stronger about my approach to the topic. Assisted suicide is murder. Someone's life does not and should not lie in the hands of someone else. There is the other side of the argument in how people are better off in a differnent place than here on earth, but that is God's decision as to when it is someone's time to leave. Not a doctor's.

Cool Soccer Tricks...

This is basically a video about a bunch of random people doing amazing soccer tricks. All my life ever since third grade I have been practically obssessed with the concept of soccer. I was introduced to the sport by my mom's side of the family and have been in love with it ever since. When I was younger I would attend the local soccer camps that Middletown held as well as join fun little rec leagues my parents had me play on. I played on rec leagues until I was about seven or eight years old and my parents went looking for something a little more serious knowing that I really liked the game. They found this girls' club team named Frederick United that I joined for about two years before they decided to combine the girls and guys into one club now called F.C. Frederick. I stopped playing after my middle school years to join the high school team. More recently, I've played at FCC for one year so far and really enjoyed it and plan to continue next year as long as it goes well with my work schedule. I also really look forward to being a part of the basketball team since I didn't get to participate last season due to a broken ankle.

Thesis Statement - Lowering the Drinking Age

Lowering the drinking age, especially in today's society will help young adults to be more responsible for their actions and make better decisions. A lower drinking age will promote responsibility in younger adults as well as providing role models for even younger children.

I Vote for Lindsay Lohan

The main reason I might choose Lindsay Lohan to be voted off the island is because she has no control over herself. She drinks her weight in alcohol and expects it to be okay to drive. Growing up she has been a great role model for young girls. One of her movies, Parent Trap, I had watched as a kid and it brings out a very good moral that can be still used for today. However, going out and being known as a "party girl" is not something that I would want or have any of my children looking up to.

With Lindsay gone, our nation would be one less a bad role model for not only children but young teenagers as well. I would say that what she has done in the past had an affect on the lives of young children today by setting the example that it is okay to drink while under the influence and to party all the time. People that would miss her would include her family. I would hope that she also has decent friends out there that care about her and arn't her "drinking buddies". What really frusterated me about Lindsay is that she was traveling on the right path, but due to other influences, she decided to take on the whole party image.

The value that leads me to this decision is that if we continue to look up to people, such as Lindsay Lohan, that believe all life is about is "having fun" and getting drunk then there will eventually be no future for the lives of our children and future generations. In other words, what we have in technology and everything else today is the outcome of the hard work of our past generations and if we don't continue to strive and keep up with the rest of the world, our nation would have the potential to lose all of our "power", so to speak.

My Four Choices

Violence on Television and its Impact on Society - The majority of people would agree that many more kids today that watch television have a more violent way of handling situations as oppose to those who don't watch it as often. The majority of us also know that what people do in front of children is critical due to the "monkey see, monkey do" theory. If parents and guardians had more control of what types of television and games children as well as young teens play, there would be a more sussessful generations.

Lowering the Drinking Age - I am well aware of the fact that I am underage and not allowed to legally drink, but this is not the reason as to why I beileve that the drinking age should be lowered. Lowering the drinking age to eighteen, in my opinion, would result in less crime and violence. Teenagers would not have to "sneak" drinking and binging would also not be a problem because it would be legal so it would not be forever until their next drink. This does not only pertain to me because it is my generation for the most part, but because it also would hinder the amount of danger going on around me, as well as others.

Abortion/Teenage Pregnancy - Being a catholic, this is a concern that I have been heard and preached to my whole life. While it is very inconvienient for someone to get pregnant at an early age, it was someone's choice to do so. Someone made a choice to take a risk. Shouldn't the baby get a chance to make something of themselves and perhaps even have that choice in their future?

The Cost of College - When everyone hears the word college, many think about the financial side of it and how much it costs, which is usually extremely high. A minimum of 300 dollars for one class seems a bit ridiculous. However, there is a lot that can be done about this issue. There are scholarships, grants, and financial aid that is out there for not only people who really need it but those average joes as well. When it's all said and done, all the hard work and money pays off when someone is making 50,000 a year, or just simply happy with thier job.

Guns, guns, guns...will it ever end? - My Hypothesis

Of what I have seen in the movie so far I would say that having no gun control by the governmentis in favor. The two main characters, one being number nine in the jury, are first making sure they can manipulate the jury. By doing this (the two main characters) will be able to keep the jury on the same page and allow no alliances formed within the group. For this reason, I believe that they main character in the jury chose the blind man to be the "leader" of the jury. In other words, being responsible for making the most important decisions. The blind man, in the main characters' opinion apparently, cannot differenciate between who may be for or against gun control by way of their actions and facial expressions.

Whether it be in the park, by the pool, or in the grocery store, everywhere you look, there is potential for danger to occur. As long as people are present, there is always an opportunity for a problem no matter where anyone goes. Giving someone the ability to own their own gun enables the possibility for crime and violence. However, owning a gun is not always the cause for a crime to be commited. I believe that having gun control to ourselves is most beneficial as a way of protection and for defensive purposes.

My Life as Cinderella - The Happily Ever After

The story of Cinderella is well known to just about everyone. How she was raised by her evil stepmother while her dad was away and eventually died, and how her stepmother and sisters had her doing all the chores around the house while they did nothing. She then meets the prince and they fall in love and live happily ever after.

My story? Not quite the same. I work my butt off twenty-four/seven around the house, and most of time I don't feel like it's ever appreciated or even noticed. However, I do not live in the poorest conditions in which I wear rags and eat a dinner of bread and water.

In comparing Cinderella and myself, there are a lot of similarities as well as differences. Throughout Cinderella's life, she has worked very hard under very poor conditions and to her luck it had been worth every scrubbing second.

While I am not working under such harsh conditions, I am constantly struggling to pay bills, and to keep up with school as well as around the house. One partial difference between the "Cinderella" and I, is the fact that indeed I am not of royalty but I also do not live in a one-room shack.

"To get respect, you have to give it"

If I had to create a bumper sticker it would be "To get respect, you have to give it". It has been a slogan that I have been preached and taught my whole life. This is an important part of who my family and I are. Not only is this saying one my dad uses frequesntly, but I believe that it should be used as a guideline for everyone.

This phrase is somewhat similar to the golden rule except that it is more detailed in the fact that it is specifically referring to respect.

Examples of this include getting up from a chair to let an elderly person or someone older than you to have a seat. Also, my sisters and I have been raised to use common manners such as holder the door open for someone walking in behind you, saying please and thank you when necessary, and saying "excuse me" walking by someone when you're in their way.

All in all, respect is what keeps the world turning and without it the people that live on it would have utter chaos.
